How Alseen follows the customer’s path through a market
Follow one real market through the first five steps: every figure in steps 1 to 5 comes from heating and cooling businesses in a US metro. Step 6 shows the sample report for an invented estate planning firm.
- 1Choose a market
- 2Find the businesses a customer would find
- 3Follow the customer’s path

1
Choose a market
We choose the market with you: one kind of business in one city. Every business in it is read the same way, on the same day.

2
Find the businesses a customer would find
Alseen searches the web and public directories the way a customer would. It takes businesses in the order they appear in those searches, makes sure franchise locations, multi-state brands and independents are included, and leaves out directories, suppliers and mainly commercial contractors.
3
Follow the customer’s path
Alseen follows the path a customer takes with each business, in four stages: finding it and checking that its details agree, understanding what it offers and on what terms, checking that every way to reach it works, and seeing whether there is a clear next step to book or buy. Every business is held to the same customer questions and Alseen’s written rulebook, with AI doing the reading.
- FindCan I find it, and does what I find work?
- UnderstandCan I tell what it offers, where, when, and on what terms?
- ReachCan I get my question to the business easily?
- ActIs there a clear, working next step?

Check the reading
To test that the rulebook gives the same answer every time, a second AI reader reads some of the businesses again on its own, and the two passes are compared answer by answer. Where they differ because the rulebook is unclear, a written ruling settles the point and both readers read again. Agreement between the two readers shows the rulebook gives the same answer each time, and your report shows what was found behind every answer, so you can check each one yourself.
230 answers compared
212 the same the first time15 the same after a ruling and a second read3 settled by a ruling
In this reading, a second AI reader read 5 of the 15 businesses, and the two readings were compared on all 46 questions for each one.
5
Score and compare
Each business receives a score out of 100, overall and for each stage, with a label (Low, Medium or High) that shows how sure the reading is. A report names a business’s place among the similar businesses nearby only when the gap is large enough for Alseen to be 90% sure of it, and only when at least 12 businesses are compared, with at least 3 in each quarter of the market.
Upper half
Its place is named, because Alseen is 90% sure it sits in one of these two quarters.
Too close to call
No place is named, because it could sit in any of three quarters.

Your report
Your report shows what works, the blind spots and your first steps in order, with your market beside you. Your named results go only to you. Figures for a whole market, like the reading on this site, show every business anonymously.

What Alseen publishes, and what it keeps private
The outline of the method is public, so you can see what a result means. The exact rules and weights stay private, and so do your results.
Published
- The four stages, and the customer question behind each
- What a score, a “how sure” label, and a place mean
- Which version of the method produced each result
- Market figures, with no business named
Private
- The exact rules behind each customer question, and how much each one counts
- A business’s named results, which go only to that business
Why it matters now
Customers compare you with the businesses nearby before they get in touch, and some now ask an AI assistant to do that comparing for them. Either way, they can only choose you on what they can find, understand, reach and act on.
